  Orestes Kindelán Olivares

Not by chance, the fans have nicknamed him "tambor mayor" (biggest drum). The fact is that his immense batting power makes him the best power hitter of Cuban baseball in the last two decades.
An undeniable proof of this is the amazing sum of home runs (487) he connected during his whole career. That record, which keeps unattainable until today, was achieved in 6 588 turns to bat.
He was usually the fourth in the line-ups of the teams he played for during 21 national series.
During the 1980's and 90's he was chosen to play with the Cuban national team in seven World Championships, seven Intercontinental Cups, three Olympic Games, four Pan-american ones, and four Central American and Caribbean Games.
With a size of 6'3''and a weight of 196 pounds, this ebony baseball player hails from the eastern town of Palma Soriano, near the city of Santiago de Cuba, where he was born on January 7th, 1964.
He is among the few who have batted more than 1000 hits. Furthermore, he totals 511 runs by impulsion and connected 330 doubles and just 36 triples. The last figure indicates that he is not a fast runner owing to his physical appearance.
He started as a catcher and then began playing as a left fielder until he established himself as a first baseman or as a designed hitter.
Still many fans feel nostalgic when they realize that the exceptional slugger, who has been playing in the Japanese professional league since 2002, could have reach the mark of 500 home runs in national series with just 13 more, a figure never attained, not even dreamed of, by any amateur baseball player in Cuba.
