She has won a place in Olympic and international
judo. Many describe her behavior over the tatami as "ferocious"
and it is literally so because this woman, having a size of
5'4'', has managed to defeat not only the most difficult rivals
in the 123 pound category, but also the serious lesions that
have affected her.
Bronze in Barcelona'92, gold in Atlanta'96, and silver in Sydney'00
are the best presentation cards of this mulatto woman who looks
straight with her expressive eyes.
After her participation in the Olympics held in Sydney, this
exceptional athlete, fourth Dan black belt, wanted to be a mother
before leaving the practice of judo for good. And she made it.
Following an intensive recovery training plan to lose all the
extra weight, she managed to be in a great shape again.
A gold medal in world championships, two in Pan-american games
and four titles in the demanding World University Championships,
among others, supported her decision of returning to the practice
of judo.
Born on September 21st, 1973, this "guantanamera"

The A-class tournaments organized in Europe, Asia or Africa

Professor Ronaldo Veitía, responsible for the formation
of several generation of Judo athletes, managed to polish the
raw diamond discovered by Roberto Ortega when the girl was barely
ten years old.
The pupil did not let the professor down and managed, little
by little, to win herself a place in the history of Cuban sport,
that has nominated her three times Best Female Athlete in Cuba
and has acknowledged her role in Cuba's Judo and sport.
