  Antonio Muñoz

He was part of the famous Cuban national teams that conquered numberless World Championships during the 1970's and 80's.
He hails from the mountainous zone of El Escambray in central Cuba. Left-handed hitter with an exceptional power, he regularly played in the fourth or fifth position in the line-ups of the national or the regional teams he represented in 24 national series, being the only one to reach such amount of national baseball competitions.
The "Giant of Escambray" was part of a generation of exceptional baseball players, such as Luis Giraldo Casanova (Pinar del Río), Armando Capiró (Havana), and Pedro José Rodríguez (Cienfuegos). Little by little, he developed his qualities as a slugger. In the first six national series, he had connected only 24 homeruns and by the end of his career he had reached the figure of 370, being surpassed only by Orestes Kindelán (487), Lázaro Junco (405), and Omar Linares (404).
After his retirement as an active player, he has worked as a trainer in Italy and with the same enthusiasm that took him to the Old Continent, he returned to the island to be the manager of the Cienfuegos team in the Cuban National Series.
More than once he has expressed that what he likes the best is working with children, whom he has never abandoned, to provide them with his experience and vast knowledge and thus give shape to future generations of baseball players in south central Cuba.
